Ms. Radhika Chakravarthy, an officer of the Indian Postal Service (IPoS), 1996 batch, is currently serving as अतिरिक्त सचिव in the National Commission for Women, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India. She holds a B. Tech. in Electronics and Communications Engineering. The officer is also a recipient of the prestigious LBSNAA Director’s Gold Medal for her foundation course performance.

Her work spans critical domains including social defence, substance use prevention, welfare measures for high Risk groups and matters related empowerment gender justice. During her tenure with the Government of India, the officer has spearheaded the nation’s drug demand reduction initiatives, leading efforts to combat substance use disorder.  The flagship campaign Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan emerged as a powerful Jan Andolan, mobilising citizens across regions and demographics. The campaign has garnered the support of over 25+ crore people, including 9+ crore youth and 6+ crore women. 28+ lakh users have been treated and rehabilitated through these efforts. Its impactful grassroots success has featured in a dedicated episode of Mann Ki Baat.

The officer handled several key institutions and strategic projects crucial to social development, including the National Institute of Social Defence, Project Monitoring Unit and SGoS Welfare 5 and was instrumental in bringing out the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, a historic legislation that safeguards the rights, dignity, and welfare of the transgender community. Officer also handled developmental projects including setting up of automated mail processing centres and contributed to setting up of India Posts Payment Bank and management of vast postal network.
