{"id":3528,"date":"2024-10-14T12:19:43","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T06:49:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ncw.gov.in\/?post_type=cell_types&#038;p=3528"},"modified":"2025-10-07T10:07:45","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T04:37:45","slug":"nri-cell","status":"publish","type":"cell_types","link":"https:\/\/www.ncw.gov.in\/hi\/ncw-cells\/nri-cell\/","title":{"rendered":"NRI Cell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"last-updated-date\">Last updated: \u0905\u0915\u094d\u091f\u0942\u092c\u0930 7th, 2025<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In view of the seriousness of issues involved in violation of women in NRI marriages, the National Commission for Women was nominated as Coordinating agency at the National level for dealing with issues pertaining NRI marriages vide Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (now part of Ministry of External Affairs) Order dated 28th April 2008. This initiative was based on the recommendations of Parliamentary Committee on Empowerment of Women (14<sup>th<\/sup> Lok Sabha-2006-2007) on the subject of \u201cPlight of Indian Women Deserted by their NRI Husbands\u201d.\u00a0 Subsequently, the NRI Cell of the Commission came into existence on 24<sup>th<\/sup> September, 2009.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The increase in Indian Diaspora all over the world has resulted in the emergence of a new form of marriage termed as NRI marriage, where one party is a resident\/citizen of another country or where both parties are Indian, but are living on foreign soil. Problems that arise in such NRI Marriages are especially difficult to resolve due to multiplicity of jurisdictions and laws. The incidence of cases pertaining to deprivation of women\u2019s rights in case of NRI\/ Overseas marriages and desertion of women by NRI \/ Overseas spouses has been increasing continuously.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since, the inception of NRI Cell, Commission has been playing a distinctive role and working tirelessly in providing assistance to women survivors of NRI Marriages.
